Wrong Idea Contest #1: Mullein & Pokeweed

Each week I’m going to post a sketch or picture of a word or phrase I didn’t immediately understand from one of Walt Whitman’s works.

The trick is that these pictures are definitely not what the word means, but instead are what I thought they sounded like they mean.

This week “mullein & pokeweed” from “Song of Myself”.

M&P

Now the first person to leave what this really means in a comment gets a point, the person with the most points at the end of the semester gets a tray of cookies.

Let the games begin.

This is such an excellent idea!! Keep it going — we’ll feature it on the projects page, though I’d ask you to come up with a tag so that we can aggregate posts that contribute to the series.

Mullein and pokeweed are both medicinal herbs- weeds some might say. You could probably make an effective snake oil…

Mullein is good for lungs and bronchial conditions. Pokeweed- havent used myself but think it gets used in cases of inflammation. wikipedia is a good intro http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pokeweed

Now where and how is Whitman referring to the plants?

Great concept for a weekly post! Those two don’t look so good for what ails you.

If this is still available, I want to purchase 10 bottles of it. Great post.
